Bills Released Veteran Quarterback On Friday Afternoon

The Buffalo Bills signed Kyle Allen earlier this year, and it appeared through training camp and the preseason that he would be the team's backup quarterback.

Buffalo has officially released quarterback Matt Barkley, who was previously added to injured reserve earlier this week.

Barkley is eligible to sign with another team immediately, and given his history in the NFL it wouldn't be a surprise to see him do so.

Barkley has played for nine teams in his career, and he's had two stints with both the Bills and the Arizona Cardinals.

The former USC star entered the league in 2013 as a third-round pick. Barkley was highly recruited out of high school, where he was a five-star prospect at the famous Mater Dei school in Santa Ana

Barkley's NFL career likely peaked in 2016, when he started six games for the Chicago Bears. He went 1-5 in those six starts, throwing eight touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

The Bills will move along with a quarterback room of two Allens - Josh as the starter and Kyle as the backup.

They begin their season on September 11, where they'll face the new-look Jets and Aaron Rodgers on the road at Metlife Stadium.
