(Part-2) Trump will meet with Teamsters in Washington to undermine Biden's union backing.

The National Labor Relations Board reversed multiple orders that made it easier for tiny unions to organize, increased franchise workers' bargaining rights, and protected employees from anti-union tactics during Trump's administration.

In 2018, the Supreme Court's conservative majority—including three Trump nominees—overturned a decades-old pro-union ruling on government worker fees. The court overturned a 2021 California legislation allowing unions to organize workers on farm land.

The Teamsters nominated Biden in 2020 and Hillary Clinton in 2016, but O'Brien said the organization had "a very diverse membership." Our members vote

Cornell University labor studies director Art Wheaton said unions used to always support Democratic politicians. He said this year, organizations like the Teamsters have challenged candidates to explain their ideas and how they will help rank-and-file workers to get support. Wheaton warned candidates: “If you don't help labor and you don't help my position, you're not going to get my endorsement.

A large number of Teamsters members favor the previous president, as shown by their meeting with Trump. The union backed Biden, but Wheaton thinks 30% to 40% of its members voted for Trump in 2020. Wheaton advised doing your research, listening, and letting people communicate what they want.

Trump went to Michigan in September as his Republican opponents debated Biden's electric car campaign during a strike to win over autoworkers. Trump openly appealed to Fain from the floor of a non-unionized auto parts shop to back him. Fain backed Biden and dubbed Trump a “scab,” a disparaging word for strikebreakers.

He stated, “This November we can stand up and elect someone who stands with us and supports our cause, or we can elect someone who will divide us and fight us every step of the way. UPS drivers, film and TV personnel, freight operators, police enforcement, and other government workers are Teamsters.

The AFL-CIO, American Federation of Teachers, and American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees endorsed Biden in June. Biden is depending on the nation's top unions' massive get-out-the-vote operations to turn out his supporters in battleground areas, even though union membership rates plummeted to another record low in 2023.

Trump's last GOP opponent, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, did not reply to a request for comment on whether she would meet with the organization.
