Ingredients:
For the Apple Filling:
- 6 cups of peeled, cored, and sliced apples (a mix of sweet and tart varieties like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp works well)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
For the Crisp Topping:
- 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
Instructions:
Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Prepare the Apple Filling:
In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
Transfer to Baking Dish:
Transfer the apple mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
Make the Crisp Topping:
In a separate bowl, combine the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Mix well.
Add the cold, diced butter to the dry ingredients.
Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to combine until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Top the Apples:
Sprinkle the crisp topping evenly over the apple mixture in the baking dish.
Bake:
Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes or until the top is golden brown, and the apples are tender.
You can check the doneness by inserting a fork into the apples; it should go in easily.
Serve:
Allow the apple crisp to cool for a few minutes before serving.
It’s delicious on its own or topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
Enjoy:
Serve warm and enjoy your delicious homemade apple crisp!
This recipe is perfect for fall or anytime you crave a comforting and sweet dessert.
Adjust the sweetness to your liking and feel free to add a handful of chopped nuts to the topping for extra crunch.
